Success Built to Last

In their compelling book, Success Built to Last, authors Jerry Porras , Stewart Emery, and Mark Thompson highlight three essential ingredients of individuals who successfully align their lives with their work: (1) doing what matters deeply to you; (2) "having a highly developed sense of accountability, audacity, passion and responsible optimism;" and (3) taking action in effective ways.

I am always skeptical of books with such short and simple lists for success, but each of these three items, when unpacked for their real potential insight, has been meaningful for participants in some workshops I have led this year.

People seem to find particular value in thinking about what responsible optimism looks like in motion, and how they might be taking action but doing so in ineffective ways.
