Facilitation Friday #41: One Critical Question
There is one question that should remain on the mental desktop of every presenter, facilitator, teacher, trainer, and leader:
How might I be getting in the way of individuals learning or a group taking greater ownership over its discussions and outcomes?
I could say a lot more about this, but that might get in the way of you reflecting on this question and identifying opportunities for you to quit making others' yield to you when it is not necessary for them to do so.

When I facilitate, I pay attention to how much I am talking - striving to only talk enough, but not too much, and to be very careful of commenting after every participants' comment in a debrief. I know I sometimes don't meet my goals - but without this awareness, I wouldn't even come close!
It's a great goal to have. Balancing our ability as facilitators to help connect comments that various participants have made with not taking up too much air time is always a delicate balance.
